PD, maybe after watching the WBA game, they have a point?

I'm confused how someone could have watched the Arsenal game and then asked this question? Or am I missing something?

I also think AC would have been gone by now... it's only now he's taken up with the Mucklow tart that he's realised he needs to stay in London and must try and do something for his (grossly inflated) pay cheque.

The more I look across the situation, the more I feel we can only go to the next level if all 3 of the crony boys move on.

Carroll doesn't have the pace to play the type of football that got us to 4th. By trying to shoe horn him into the team that plays that system well, BFS is falling between two stools.

Yarmouth

Correct. Agree with all that.

So either Sam thinks he can 'slide' his own style of play back in, and claim the previous success as his own, or he knows that what he is doing may have a degree of detrimental effect...

All very strange.

As you say, interesting times...

Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
Nolan has the ability, but not the legs anymore, to adapt to the passing style that we played at the start of the season. Carroll doesn't.

He's one dimensional and BFS knows it but insists on playing him as it's his style too.

It will limit our progress as a club and diminish the effect that a player like Song can have on the team.

Unless Carroll gets injured again or an offer comes in that the owners want (doubtful given his injury record and lack of goals at this level) the he will be our starting battering ram as long as BFS is here.

If it persists, and it unfortunately it will, players like Song will leave and we will go back to where we started - unless the owners have the balls to tell BFS to fucking change away from Carroll or Sheringham has more influence.

Interesting period coming up now..

Can someone show me where SA has said that? I don't think he has. David Gold saying that SA keeps telling the directors it is impossible to finish in the top 5 is typical of any manager trying to control expectations of fans and directors. That's all.

ATBOG 5:36 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
if allardyce is telling David Gold "no way are we going to finish in the top 8 & I have the stats to prove it" or something like that AND we do then all of a sudden he's a miracle worker & has to be given a new deal at a much improved rate of pay. According to himself, obviously. If he doesn't get said new deal then off he sulks getting his media mates to whine on his behalf while he lines up the next suckers/club.

Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
NO CHL It is you that doesn't understand FFS!

There is no paradox! It is entirely in your mind! SA is merely controlling expectations but you are twisting it into SA is not the man to achieve a top 6 finish.

There is no paradox!

COOL HAND LUKE 5:15 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
Oh, and the example you have given at the end there is not a paradox at all.

Sorry.

And... your last post suggests you m-a-y just have gone back and read it all through properly (at last)?!

I have to go out shopping now. Boring I know, but the real world awaits.

Happy New Year.

COOL HAND LUKE 5:11 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
THAT is why it's a paradox, Willtell, old fruit.

It's not in his interests to fail, as the 'success' would go on his cv, BUT...

...if he does by some miracle remain in the top spots, there is a much greater risk that someone will covet the job and break ranks to take it off him...

...ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT HE IS ALREADY WARNING THE BOARD THAT HE IS NOT THE MAN TO ACHIEVE IT ANYWAY.

So... "contradictory statements that might (or might not) be true"? Paradox.

I could go on but as you seem to be in a gang of one in struggling with this...

I don't like SA. In fact a lot of what you say may well be right and it wasn't that long ago (2 years ago in fact) that I was a voice in the wilderness saying that his contract shouldn't be renewed. My reasons were similar to yours in that I didn't think he knew how to play a modern tactical game. At that time there had been little evidence to contradict me.

This season it is different though. We have been as high as 4th and are currently 6th after two defeats and a poor start. You don't sack a manager on the basis that you think he's deliberately holding WH back when the evidence is entirely in your mind.

Any manager would rather be 4th than 6th or 6th rather than 16th. It's good for the ego and CV. Your paradox is that you want him out so argue stupid points like this when all he is saying when discussing things with the board that WH were over-performing and the board and FANS need to get real occasionally...

The only mention of a paradox was much earlier in your post. Hence you were talking rubbish about SA wanting to hold WH back. Here it is -

COOL HAND LUKE 11:10 Mon Dec 29
So if you were Sam (not "if you were any normal person", but if you were an arrogant snidey self seeking kant like Sam, okay?) would you see it as being in your interests to over achieve and effectively cut your own throat?

Or would you perhaps meddle with selection, make the right noises, and allow the side to slide gently to a Sam Allardyce position in the table..?

COOL HAND LUKE 4:34 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
I agree with that, Cough.

Sam wasn't someone the majority of fans liked, and he isn't someone the majority of them like now.

His myopic behaviours and stubborn cronyism have not endeared him to many along the way (me included) and I really do think he would be forgotten very quickly if we can get the right guy in his place.

Look at Southampton... players sold, manager gone, doomed, we all thought. Up pops Ronald Koeman, rebuilds the side, galvanises them, no preconceived notions about which other teams are 'beatable' and which are not. It can be done. We need to steal a Ronald Koeman type from somebody else, BEFORE Sam's regime drives away the best elements of this squad.

We certainly don't want to be sticking with somebody who is telling his board that the top clubs can't be beaten, nobody can gatecrash their hallowed CL spots, and giving the impression there's no point in trying as 'the cream will always rise to the top' over a season.

Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
Allardyce has been benching Nolan, I think Noble's injury has impacted on recent selections. I do genuinely think Allardyce is over the Nolan starting every game mindset. He sees he has value as an impact sub and I'm neutral with that, does not bother me.

My beef is the situation with Carroll and in that respect Allardyce has shown no desire to mix it up and considering we saw how well another style worked this season it's pretty damning of him as a manager..

Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
As much as I hate some and would dearlyove to blame him I just can't.

Due to fear of not being able to see the last season at the Boleyn I have purchased a half season ticket. Therefore any drop in form or playing style is down to me and I take full responsibility for it.

Far Cough 4:18 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
Griff, as you know I rarely criticise the club, players or manager but I feel the absolute disdain thrown at him over the Carroll Nolan thing is too much to overcome and would be best for all parties if he wasn't given a new contract

I can't believe we're seriously having a discussion about replacing the bloke when we're 6th in the League.

I mean, he has his faults, but its a bit harsh?

COOL HAND LUKE 4:11 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
Nolan is not good enough now. That's not intended to be a personal criticism of the man... he did well for us early doors, but he is knocking on now and is not predisposed to natural athleticism.

Nolan's fellow players also realise what is happening... the danger is we will lose one or two players who are unjustifiably pushed down the pecking order by Sam's cronyism and silly stubbornness.

I'd like to see Sam and Nolan go BEFORE we lose the younger alternatives from our squad as a result of these shenanigans.

wrighty 3:56 Mon Dec 29
Re: Has big Sam damaged the flow and confidence of the team ?.
I didn't think Nolan was very good when he came on, had a good chance to play Valencia in immediately and under hit the pass. Then gave it away in a dangerous area.

His biggest problem is what position you play him in, his lack of pace means centre mid is a struggle now so can only think the number 10 role suits.
